Why you need a student ID card

Carry your student ID card with you when you’re on campus. You’ll need it to:

  • confirm your identity at exams
  • borrow from the Library
  • print and photocopy
  • access certain University buildings, rooms and facilities.

Your student ID card isn’t a public transport concession card. Visit the Transport Victoria website to learn more about concession fares.

Your student ID card is not transferable and can only be used by you. Don’t loan it to anyone else.

Get your student ID card

If you study on campus, follow the steps below to order your student ID card and collect it from your selected campus. Please note: If you study a single subject with La Trobe or through OUA Open Access, you can’t get a student ID card.

Take a clear photo of yourself that meets passport photo guidelines.

Your photo needs to:

  • have a plain, light-coloured background
  • be an original photo – not a photo of another photo
  • have no filters or editing
  • be a JPEG file
  • be no larger than 3 MB.

Complete the online form and upload your photo.

We’ll send a confirmation to your La Trobe student email.

We’ll email your La Trobe student email when your photo has been reviewed. We’ll email you again when your photo has been reviewed, which can take up to one week during busy periods.

If your photo isn’t approved, we’ll tell you why and ask you to submit a new one.

Can’t log in to the form? See our problems logging into student ID card request form FAQ for guidance.

We’ll email you when your photo is approved. Your card will take up to five working days to be made after you receive this email.  You won’t receive another email when your card is ready.

You can then collect it from the campus location you selected when you ordered it. Make sure you bring a government-issued photo ID, such as your passport or driver’s license.

If you have your full Victorian driver licence, you can use your digital driver licence.

Studying online or through a third-party partner?

If you study fully online or though a third-party partner within Australia, you can have your student ID card mailed to you by completing this form (instead of following the steps above).

Replace your student ID card

What you need to do depends on whether your card is lost, stolen, damaged or expired.

Email idcard@latrobe.edu.au as soon as possible with your name and student ID so we can cancel your card.

If your card is lost

You’ll need to order and pay for a replacement.

If you find your original card after ordering a replacement, email idcard@latrobe.edu.au as soon as possible. If your replacement hasn’t been processed yet, the team can help organise a refund. Once your replacement has been processed, you can’t get a refund.

If your card is stolen

You can get a free replacement if you have a police report. If you’re studying at the Melbourne (Bundoora Campus), take your police report to the Security Hub in the Agora or email it to idcard@latrobe.edu.au. If you’re at another campus, email your police report to idcard@latrobe.edu.au.

If you don’t have a police report, you’ll need to order and pay for a replacement card.
