Online course SSAF change from 1 January 2021

As part of our commitment to improve the student experience, the University now provides the majority of student support services online to complement our on-campus delivered services.  As a result, we’ve recently reviewed the Student Services and Amenities Fees (SSAF) Policy for our courses delivered completely online.

From Friday 1 January 2021, all students enrolled in a completely online course will need to pay the yearly Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). The online course SSAF amount will be half of the on-campus full-time or part-time load equivalent.

The updated SSAF Policy can be viewed online.

Example online course SSAF amounts based on original 2020 fee, where part-time is considered as EFTSL < 0.375 and full-time EFTSL > 0.375:

Calculating your SSAF

Your payment amount for the SSAF is determined by your study load (the number of subjects and whether you are full-time or part-time) and the nature of your subject delivery (on-campus or online/distance education).

Are you full time of part-time?

  • Full time students have an aggregate Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL) of 0.375 or more.
  • Part time students have an aggregate Equivalent Full Time Study Load (EFTSL) of less than 0.375.

La Trobe is one of the only Universities to refund and waive most of its SSAF for students in considering the difficult financial situations many of our student are facing. We would love to completely refund SSAF for 2020, but we need to fund essential services such as the University’s Student Associations, advocacy, learning support and counselling services that all continue to operate while students study remotely.
