Background

Dr David Morgan is one of La Trobe University's most successful Alumni, having undertaken his PhD at LSE after completing his Bachelor and Master of Science in Economics at La Trobe. Dr Morgan is former Chief Executive Officer of the Westpac Banking Corporation and former Chairman of the Australian Bankers' Association.

In 2009 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for 'Service to the finance sector as a leader in the development of policies affecting the regulation of financial institutions, corporate social responsibility and economics reform'.

A benefactor of the J B Davros Family Foundation, Dr Morgan and the Foundation is offering talented undergraduates of La Trobe University the opportunity to apply for a $45,000 scholarship to undertake a Masters at the London School of Economics.

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the foremost social science universities in the world, founded in 1895 and producing 16 Nobel prize winners. This is an unprecedented opportunity for our Economics and Commerce students, and applications are open for this scholarship now.

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in or have recently completed (2015 graduate) an Economics or Commerce related degree program (including double degree programs) on any campus of La Trobe University
  • Be able to satisfy all entry requirements for the London School of Economics (LSE) Masters program of your choice
  • Be able to supply evidence of having applied for admission, or been made an offer for admission, to LSE for the 2016/17 intake.

The successful student will demonstrate the spirit of Dr Morgan's Order of Australia, and have a history of consistently high academic achievement.

  • Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Economics

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Economics
  • Bachelor of Economics (Honours)

Eligibility for admission to London School of Economics:

To be considered for admission to LSE, Australian qualifications must be a minimum 4-year Bachelor (Honours) Degree with a 2:1, Distinction, Division A, Division 1 or B+ in the majority of individual component marks.

For students taking the three year bachelor's degree they require excellent grades of First Class, or High Distinction and an A in individual component marks.
