Research

The Department of Psychology and Counselling comprises a vibrant, diverse, engaged and committed group of scholars who do world-class research with rigour and community impact. We’re making novel and meaningful discoveries in clinical and health psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive and behavioural neuroscience, sensory and perceptual processes, and social, cultural and community psychology. We have a strong history of interdisciplinary collaboration, and psychology department researchers collaborate with others across the university as well as national and international partners to produce high quality research with real-world impact in industry, health services and the community.

Our department has a proud history of producing many of Australia’s top professional leaders in psychology who have transformed our field with their innovative, evidence-based approach. Our postgraduate program in Clinical Psychology is renowned for training outstanding scientist-practitioners who engage in clinically meaningful research. We care deeply about our students and many of our staff members have won awards for student engagement and supervision.

We also have history of excellence in research including a high level of success in attracting competitive grant funding, and significant output in the form of publications and conference presentations as well as media engagement. In 2018 we achieved the top ERA ranking of 5, placing us well above world standard.
