Orientation: Online orientation and orientation module
Congratulations on joining the La Trobe research community! A Graduate Research Degree is your chance to grow as a researcher and to contribute original and valuable knowledge to your discipline and the world. We are excited to meet you and to help you get started on your research journey.
Interactive Orientation sessions
Research candidates can commence their studies at any time during the year, so the Graduate Research School offers Orientation sessions throughout the year. Candidates based at Bundoora, Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Mildura, Shepparton, and external campuses are all invited to attend.
At an interactive Orientation session, you will get to meet other graduate researchers, learn about resources you can access, and hear from the people who will be supporting you through your candidature.
These interactive Orientation sessions are hosted by the Research Education and Development (RED) Team and held online, via Zoom. You should receive a calendar invite to the next available Orientation session before you commence or early in your candidature. If you can’t find your invitation, you can register for Orientation sessions via the RED Workshops and Seminars page, or email: red.grs@latrobe.edu.au
The Orientation sessions for this year are:

Together with your local induction, conversations with your supervisors, the Induction Checklist, preparation for your Progress Milestones, and workshops, you will be well supported to make a strong start to your Masters by Research, PhD, or Professional Doctorate.
Candidates are also encouraged to participate in the University’s Orientation Weeks in February and July to find out more about all the resources and opportunities open to Graduate Researchers at La Trobe, including Student IT, Careers, and Student Wellbeing. Put together your individualised schedule via the La Trobe Students Orientation Planner.
