Become our first Wurruwila Wutja Research Fellow
Are you an Indigenous researcher passionate about making a positive impact in community? We are thrilled to announce the Wurruwila Wutja Research Fellowship, a unique opportunity to advance your research career and contribute to Indigenous knowledge and leadership.
The Wurruwila Wutja Research Fellowship is a key initiative supporting and retaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers in higher education. It aims to grow Indigenous research capacity and foster positive community impact.
Fellows will be supported both through their home School at La Trobe and at the Gabra Biik, Wurruwila Wutja Research Centre, offering a strong academic and cultural network. Each Fellow will receive mentorship and funding to support their development, with an expectation to apply for external grants to build their research career.
This multi-year appointment (up to 3 years) is open to Indigenous researchers with a PhD or equivalent experience, a strong research track record, and a commitment to community. Fellows will pursue research in their area of expertise, be affiliated with a School or Research Centre, and report to a senior academic.
For more information or to apply, email your expression of interest to IRC@latrobe.edu.au.

Thinking Blak Research Collective
The Thinking Blak Research Collective is a space for First Nations Post-Graduate students to connect, reflect, and grow together as researchers.
This online meeting group brings First Nations Post-Graduate students from across Australia into dialogue around Indigenous scholarship, decolonial theory and research methodologies. It is also a place to yarn about the lived realities of navigating colonial education systems—sharing encouragement, practical strategies, and solidarity.
Alongside reading and discussion, the Collective hosts workshops on skill development, creates space to practice talks, and provides a supportive environment to share struggles and celebrate wins. Workshops and activities are shaped through collective decision-making, ensuring members guide the direction of the group and its priorities.
If you're a First Nations Post-Graduate student currently enrolled at any Australian university and are interested in joining the group, we’d love to hear from you.
