Indoor Sports Centre Pool receives gold rating

In recognition of its outstanding commitment to safety, La Trobe University’s Indoor Sports Centre has been awarded a gold endorsement from Life Saving Victoria (LSV) after its most recent pool safety assessment.

The endorsement comes after a rigorous series of assessments were undertaken to ensure the Indoor Sports Centre met all of Life Saving Victoria's criteria for accreditation. This was done by measuring the facility's performance against a range of the most up-to-date industry, state and national standards, guidelines and legislation. Only facilities that achieve 100% compliance with these criteria are eligible to receive the award.

Public swimming pools across Victoria are listed on the Victorian Public Pools Register, which has been designed to provide an overview of services, features and safety standards at local community facilities. The register is a component of the Victorian Government's Safer Pools project and a key element of the Safer Public Pool – Code of Practice, which was jointly developed following Coronial recommendations. La Trobe University now joins only a handful of education facilities to achieve 100% compliance.

La Trobe Sport Facilities Officer, Tyler Bedurke, said the award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire La Trobe Sport team in upholding a strong culture of safety within the team.

“The health and safety of all patrons and staff has always been of the utmost importance to everyone at La Trobe Sport," Bedurke said.

"We are extremely proud to receive validation from LSV that we are providing our community with an aquatic facility that is maintaining the highest standards of safety and wellbeing around the water by exceeding industry guidelines and compliance standards.”
