Policy Summaries
Travel
Travel Insurance provides cover for staff and students whilst travelling both domestically and internationally on approved University travel.
The policy responds to unforeseen accidents, losses, and additional expenses for approved travel to destinations 50km or more from the staff or student’s main campus or residence. Valuable areas of coverage are emergency medical expenses and evacuation, cancellation/curtailment expenses, and loss of personal effects/travel documents.
Further information can be found on our Travel page.
Personal Accident
Personal Accident insurance is purchased for the benefit of staff, students, and volunteers. Personal Accident insurance provides lump sum payments and out of pocket expenses following a personal injury specified in the list of insured events.
An insured loss is a personal injury incurred during a University approved activity. Coverage is limited by insurance provided by schemes such as Medicare, TAC or Workcover.
Public Liability
Public Liability insurance covers the University for its legal liability to third parties arising from incidents for which the University has contributed or is responsible.
Typical insured incidents are personal injuries or property damage.
The policy covers claims settlements, including damages and legal expenses.
The University often requires our partner organisations to hold Public Liability insurance to ensure that the same legal liability is insured by our partners. Depending on the activity, partner insurance requirements may change. If changes to partner insurance requirements are requested, please advise the Assurance Group’s legal or insurance team.
Please report all complaints and legal demands from third parties and partner organisations as soon as possible to the Assurance Group’s Legal team.
Professional Indemnity
Professional Liability insurance covers the University for its legal liability to third parties arising from negligent performance of the University’s professional services.
Professional negligence refers to an act, error, or omission of the required skill, competence, and ability based on experience and qualifications expected from that profession which causes financial loss, personal injury, or property damage.
Professional Indemnity insurance is a mandatory requirement for many professions in Australia, it may also be required as part of professional registrations, memberships, or licences.
The University often requires our partner organisations to hold Professional Liability insurance when the scope of their engagement involves professional services.
Any departure from the University's standard terms and conditions should be referred to the Assurance Group’s Legal team.
Professional Indemnity does not provide cover for healthcare professionals – please see Medical Malpractice Insurance for further information.
