Health and wellbeing
Creating partnerships that undertake high-quality research in biotech and biomed, healthcare systems and delivery, nursing, midwifery and allied health.
Our research strengths in this diverse area have led to many successful and important research collaborations and centres including, La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS), a $100m research and teaching facility with four research centres and several biotech partner companies embedded: Hexima Limited, AdAlta Limited and Imunexus, the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre, which identifies early signs of autism in children, and the Judith Lumley Centre, which conducts ground-breaking trials in midwifery, breastfeeding and ways to reduce caesarean rates.
Additionally, a new Bio Innovation Hub will be opening next year, 2023. This will provide valuable ‘wet’ laboratory space for biotech and agritech companies to use to commercialise research and new products.
Our partnership with Academic and Research Collaborative in Health (ARCH) is transforming the capability of our clinical research, by bringing together academics, clinicians, consumers, healthcare professionals, health and social care agencies and policy makers skilled in the translation of interdisciplinary research.
We also have strong allied health capabilities in regional Victoria, due to our Rural Health School in Bendigo and our physical presence in Albury-Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton.
We are a leader in biotechnology and healthcare innovation, translation and delivery with a reputation for world-class research in the areas of:
