Australians love to play sport. However, some of our most popular sports have a high risk for knee injuries. One of the most devastating knee injuries is a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and Australia has the highest reported rate of ACL reconstruction surgeries in the world. This oration examines the physical and psychological aspects of this injury and explores the epidemic of ACL injuries we are currently facing in young, particularly female, athletes.
