Why study politics?

La Trobe University is widely recognised as one of Australia's leading centres for the study of politics and international relations.

We rank 9th in Australia and in the top 200 in the world for our Politics & International Studies subjects (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019). Our Political Science research ranks first equal in Victoria and ‘above world standard’ (ERA 2015-2016 assessment).

Study the governments, institutions, processes, beliefs and cultures that have developed in different societies. Develop an understanding of the structures of power, governance and relationships that shape human lives, societies, states and the global community. Investigate the way political organisations emerge, develop and work, and look behind events to see why they occur.
