Scholarships for Elite Athletes

Michael Malthouse Elite Sports Bursary

If you're a year 12 or IB student enrolling at La Trobe and competing at a state, national or international level, you may be eligible the Michael Malthouse Elite Sports Bursary which offers a financial scholarship to help with your first year at university.

Applications for the Michael Malthouse Elite Sports Bursary are now open for 2018 applicants.  Please visit the scholarships website for more information.

Please apply through the La Trobe Scholarships Office. Applicants must also apply to the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program.

Elite Athlete Housing Scholarship

In 2017, La Trobe Sport in conjunction with La Trobe Accommodation Services will introduce a new initiative to provide Elite Athlete Housing Scholarships to two members of the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program.

This scholarship was established to assist student athletes with extenuating circumstances to support them in their academic and sporting pursuits. In order to be eligible, athletes must demonstrate considerable hardship and/or circumstance that would otherwise prevent them from undertaking tertiary study and continuing elite level sport.

The scholarship provides a single room in a College or Halls of Residence at La Trobe University's Bundoora or Bendigo campus for the period of one university year.

To apply, athletes should contact the Elite Athlete Program coordinator at eliteathletes@latrobe.edu.au to obtain the application form.  Applications must be submitted with supporting documentation outlining how the scholarship will benefit the athlete in their academic and sporting endeavours.

Applications will re-open for 2018 students. Applicants must also apply to the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program.

Elite Athlete Bonus Point Entry Scheme

Applications are now closed for 2018 students. Submitted applications are now being assessed for eligibility to the scheme for admission to La Trobe in 2018.

Applicants who seek consideration for the Elite Athlete Entry Bonus Points Scheme must

  • meet the eligibility criteria as an elite athlete as outlined in the Elite Athlete Program
  • apply for their chosen La Trobe University courses through VTAC (as per VTAC course application timings)
  • complete the online application form.

Eligibility to the scheme does not automatically lead to an offer of a place; you will still be required to meet the prerequisites and additional requirements (if applicable) of the course and compete for a place on the basis of academic merit.

After you apply

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.  If you meet the eligibility criteria, your application to the scheme, in conjunction with your VTAC application, will be considered by a selection committee to determine if the five bonus aggregate points will be applied.

Should your application be successful, you will be advised of your acceptance into the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program after VTAC offers are released in January 2018. Once you have enrolled at La Trobe, you will be automatically registered into the Elite Athlete Program.

If you require further information please contact Ms Renee Frizzell, Elite Athlete Program Coordinator, La Trobe Sport, 9479 1687 or e-mail at eliteathletes@latrobe.edu.au.
