Marketing
Why do a short course in Marketing?
Enrolling in a single marketing subject is a good way to learn a new discipline, update your professional knowledge, enhance your qualifications or experience university before enrolling in a full degree. Some marketing subjects are available as single subjects.
Course information
Local students
There are many subjects to choose from, across all Schools in the Faculty.
You can look up subjects via discipline in our subject database – see ‘prerequisites’ to determine your eligibility for the subjects that interest you. If you haven’t studied at university before, we recommend starting with first-year subjects.
How to apply
Apply direct to the Faculty using the single subject studies application form [PDF 413KB].
We usually accept applications until late February for commencement in Semester 1 (March) and mid to late July for commencement in Semester 2 (late July).
Important things to note
- Not all subjects are offered each year, and changes may occur to subjects, fees, assessment and admission requirements. The University may also set limits on the number of students in a subject.
- Enrolment is conditional on the recommendation of the relevant Head of School (or nominee) and Faculty Office approval. Approvals are not automatic and each faculty has the right to refuse admission to any applicant.
Fees
There’s a specified fee for each subject. To find out the cost of the subjects that interest you, look up subject code in our fee calculator, or contact the Faculty. You may also need to buy textbooks/reading materials.

Further information
Your study options
You can audit a single subject or enroll in it. Auditing means you can go to classes, but will not be assessed. This is a good option if you do not intend to apply for a degree program. Enrolling means you will also do assessment tasks.
Credit for studies
If you apply for a La Trobe course, you may get credit for single subjects you have successfully completed. Taking single subjects can be a pathway to university entry for non-school leavers.
