A free program for high ability students in Years 7-12 to discover STEM career pathways .

Meet an Enviro Scientist

Students will hear from La Trobe University environmental scientists and industry professionals from a diverse range of areas including ecology, freshwater and wetland management, restoration climate change adaptation, resource management, and conservation genetics. They will share their expertise, research and pathway to their STEM career.

After an interactive Q&A panel discussion, participants will have the option to network with our panelists to  build valuable connections with both student researchers and established academics.

This event is part of the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series, providing free extension opportunities for high-ability students in Victorian Government Schools. Funded by the Department of Education's Student Excellence Program.

Program Delivery

  • Delivered in person at La Trobe University campuses
  • Live streamed to enable all students to participate
  • Delivered during school hours and evenings
  • Delivered during school Term and school holidays
  • Each event will feature different panelists - these will be promoted as they are confirmed

Program Dates 2026

Term 1 and 2

  • Wednesday 15 April, 5.45-7.30pm (Bundoora campus)
    • Dr Larissa Braz Sousa: Citizen science, Animal Health lecturer
    • Tash Perez: Restoration ecologist
    • Emily Nimmo: Amphibian endocrinologist
    • Ayca Mizrak: Supramolecular chemist
    • Christina Hunter: Freshwater turtle ecologist
  • Friday 5 June, time TBC during school hours (Bundoora campus)

Term 3 and 4

  • TBC, including events at regional campuses

Program  Eligibility

  • This program is free for Victorian Government schools/students
  • Students in Years 7-12 can attend
  • Parent/carers can register their child for events held out of school hours
  • Teachers can register their students for events held during school hours
