PhD Research Scholarship at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society
Background
Tech, sex and intimacy: a survey to understand the role of new technologies in Australian’s sexual and intimate lives.
We are seeking an outstanding PhD candidate to work with a team of scholars at the Australian Research Centre in Sex Health and Society at La Trobe University on an Australian Research Council funded Discovery Project exploring how new technologies are shaping sexual and relationship patterns in Australia.
The project will involve coordinating a national survey to explore how biomedical, biomechanical and digital technologies are integrated into people’s sexual and romantic lives including the use of technologies to enhance sexual experience and build sexual or romantic connections.
Candidates must have skills in quantitative research design and statistical analysis along with undergraduate qualifications in sociology, social-psychology or a related discipline. Some background in sexuality or gender studies is desirable.

Are you eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
- a Masters by research degree in social-psychology or related disciplines completed within the last ten years assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above; or
- an Honours degree, Masters by coursework or ungraded Masters by research degree in social-psychology or related disciplines completed within the last ten years where you achieved a weighted average mark of 70 or above across any coursework subjects; AND any of the following assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above:
- a research thesis of approximately 15,000-20,000 words; or
- the degree includes a written research component comprising at least 3/8 of one year; or
- you are the lead author of a peer-reviewed publication or other research published within the last ten years
- demonstrated skills in quantitative research design and statistical analysis
- an interest in gender and sexuality research.
