Background

Scholarship code: IND-2306

Interested in doing innovative applied PhD research about flexible learning? This scholarship will examine how the Hester Hornbrook Academy is impacting young people and communities through its unique “HOPE” delivery model.

This scholarship is part of the La Trobe University Industry PhD program, which is built around exploring an industry-focused research question, and is undertaken in an industry setting. The program supports a research investigation in an area of mutual interest to the student, the industry partner and the university.

Industry PhD projects are up to four years in duration with stipend scholarship support for 3.5 years. Students work on their project with both university-based academic supervisor and an industry-based co-supervisor, who communicate regularly. As part of your studies you will spend regular time at Hester Hornbrook Academy. This time will be negotiated by you and your supervisors.

Benefits of the scholarship include:

  • a Research Training Program (RTP) or La Trobe University Graduate Research Scholarship (LTGRS) for three and a half years, with a value of $34,000 per annum (2024 rate), to support your living costs
  • an additional industry partner stipend contribution of $16,000 per annum for three and a half years
  • access to a La Trobe Graduate Research Industry Engagement Allowance of $2,000
  • a fee-relief scholarship for up to four years
  • relocation allowance and publication/ thesis allowance
  • opportunities to work with La Trobe’s outstanding researchers, and have access to our suit of professional development programs
