Implementation of First-line Care for Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis in Nepal - PhD Scholarship

Hip and knee osteoarthritis is a significant health problem in Nepal, where access to guideline-based care is limited. The Good life with osteoarthritis from Denmark (GLA:D) is an evidence-based intervention program that provides high quality training and education material for patients with osteoarthritis. There is a strong need of such an evidence-based intervention program to be adopted in the Nepalese context. This scholarship is supported by the GLA:D Australia program for a physiotherapist familiar with the Nepalese health system to adapt the GLA:D program to the Nepalese context, including in government endorsed guidelines and protocols.
Benefits of the scholarship
- a stipend scholarship for up to three and a half (3.5) years for a PhD, with a value of $35,000 per annum
- a Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset scholarship or La Trobe Full Fee Research scholarship (LTUFFRS) for up to four years for a PhD

Are you eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
- meet the entrance requirements for the PhD
- not be receiving another scholarship greater than 75 per cent of the stipend rate for the same purpose
- applicants must be physiotherapists and have strong knowledge and interest in the Nepalese health system, as well as knowledge of evidence-based management of hip and knee osteoarthritis
In selecting successful applicants, we prioritise applications from candidates who:
- will be enrolled full-time and undertaking their research at a La Trobe University campus
- have completed a Masters by Research or other significant body of research, such as an honours research thesis or lead authorship of a peer-reviewed publication, assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above
