The Department of Education and Training manages a range of scholarships on behalf of various trusts. For more information please refer to the Victorian Government website.

- the scholarship aligns to the values of La Trobe University (e.g. providing financial assistance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds)
- the scholarship represents significant value (> $3,000 per annum)
- the scholarship is deemed to have longevity
- the subject or discipline represented in the scholarship aligns to those offered by La Trobe University
- the scholarship is not, in fact, a prize (e.g. submitting an essay or video etc.).
