Department stores and most other shops in the Central Business District (CBD) and the surrounding suburbs are open for business between:

  • 9.00 am–5.30 pm Monday to Wednesday
  • 9 am – 9 pm Thursdays and Fridays
  • 9 am – 5 pm on Saturdays
  • 10 am – 5 pm on Sundays

The following price list was compiled at a Woolworths Supermarket and the Preston Market in August 2011. All prices are in Australian dollars and are subject to change.

Vegetarian

Vegetarian food is widely available in Melbourne. If you enjoy vegetarian food, vegetarian options are available at most eateries at Melbourne campus. Go to the Visit Melbourne Guide to Vegetarian Restaurants for some great options for eating out.

Markets

Markets such as the Queen Victoria Market in the CBD, and Preston Market (a short tram ride from the Melbourne campus), usually have the lowest priced fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood.

The Queen Victoria Market is open on:

  • Tuesday and Thursday 6 am–2 pm
  • Friday 6 am–5 pm
  • Saturday 6 am–3 pm
  • Sunday 9 am–4 pm

Preston Market is open on:

  • Wednesday 8 am–3 pm
  • Thursday 8 am–6 pm
  • Friday 8 am–8 pm
  • Saturday from 8 am–1 pm.

Department stores and most other shops in Bendigo are open 9 am–5 pm, with late night shopping on Thursdays and Fridays. Some of the major shops are open all day Saturday and Sunday, however many of the smaller stores have shorter shopping hours on weekends. Some convenience stores are open 24 hours.

In Bendigo, food from different cultures is widely available, as is vegetarian and Halal food.

Arnolds' Fruit and Vegetables Market in Wodonga usually has the lowest priced fruit and vegetables and customers are able to order online. You may wish to refer to their website for an indication of costs.

Vegetarian food is readily available in Albury and Wodonga.

Department stores and most other shops open 9am–5pm. Late night shopping may be available on Thursdays and Fridays. Limited shopping hours are generally in place on weekends in Mildura. The Visit Mildura website has more information on local shopping options.

There are a number of discount stores, including the SPC Ardmona shop which sells cheap local fruits and other products. The campus is located in the convenient area next to the local community college, and at the edge of the town centre. Visit the Show Me Shepparton website for more information.
