Achieve and Achieve Plus at La Trobe

Incorporate undergraduate study into Year 12 and we'll use your grades for a special La Trobe Entrance Score. You can even boost your ATAR.

Your ATAR is one way to get into university – and to measure your achievement. But La Trobe’s research shows there are other ways to predict your success. We know that one of the best way to demonstrate you’ll succeed at uni is to include university study in your VCE. Our Achieve and Achieve Plus programs give you that option.

We’ll use your Achieve or Achieve Plus subject mark to calculate a La Trobe Entrance Score, and if you also receive an ATAR we will use whichever result is higher to assess your application.

  • Get a La Trobe Entrance Score based on your La Trobe subject grades, which you can use instead of, or as well as, an ATAR when applying for eligible La Trobe degrees. We’ll use whichever score is higher
  • Get a taste of what’s to come and see if the subject is something you want to study at university
  • Boost your academic success by following your passions and interests
  • You’ll get credit for the subjects you’ve completed when you start an eligible degree at La Trobe – so you’ll start a step ahead
  • Get an early conditional offer for your La Trobe course. That means we’ll hold your spot – it’s guaranteed as long as you meet the entry requirements and successfully complete your VCE, IB or HSC
  • Relieve stress about exams and school performance by knowing we’ve got your back with our La Trobe Entrance Score
  • It’s 100% online and free, so you’ll find it easier to balance your uni with Year 12, and save on your first year uni fees if your subjects are included in the course you choose

Achieve at La Trobe: Study one subject from La Trobe in Year 12, in either first or second semester, and we’ll use your mark from that subject, or your ATAR if you receive one and it is higher, to lead you to your dream course. It’s 100% free and online. Suitable for VCE, HSC and IB students. You can take part in Achieve at La Trobe and unlock a uni offer even if you are taking your VCE program unscored!

Achieve Plus: Choose a subject pair, one in each semester, and we’ll use your marks from those subjects, or your ATAR – whichever is higher – to lead you to your dream course. It’s 100% free and online. PLUS your online uni subjects count towards your ATAR. We’ll organise everything through the VCAA. (Note: Achieve Plus is for students studying scored VCE only.)

You’ll get access to online orientation, Studiosity and the Learning Hub. Our staff will be there to answer your questions and guide you through.

Achieve at La Trobe and Achieve Plus are both completely free.

Achieve at La Trobe is available to students in their final year of VCE, HSC and IB, including unscored students. Applicants need to supply Year 11 results to confirm that they have achieved an average grade of 70%, and a statement of support from a teacher or coordinator.

Achieve Plus is available to scored VCE students who:

  • Have enrolled in at least 4 VCE unit 3/4 subjects (one must be English or EAL)
  • Have at least one 3/4 VCE enrolment during the year you undertake Achieve Plus
  • Are eligible to be awarded the VCE and have demonstrated high achieving results (B/70% pass average)
  • Applicants must also provide a Principal’s Letter of Recommendation and Year 11 results

First semester commences on February 28 2022 and second semester on 18 July 2022. Your study will be 100% online, so your La Trobe study works alongside your Year 12 subjects.

At La Trobe, we believe the best indicator of how you’ll succeed at uni is how well you do in our university programs for school students. We’ve looked at the subsequent performance of numerous students who undertook our pathway programs and compared that to the performance of ATAR students to generate a La Trobe Entrance Score. You can use your La Trobe Entrance Score like the rank you may receive for school studies. The table below shows what average grades you need in your La Trobe pathway studies to gain a La Trobe Entrance Score.

Achieve/+ average mark

La Trobe Entrance Score or outcome

50 Pass - Entry to La Trobe Diploma
57 50.9
60 55.3

70 69.9
75 77.3
80 84.6
85 92
90 99.3
95 99.9
100 99.9

Note: this table shows the La Trobe Entrance Scores for 2021. These are updated regularly as we compile more data about course outcomes each year.

You’ll be eligible to apply for most undergraduate programs excluding some courses that have limited places like Bachelor of Dentistry and Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical). Of course, you’ll also need to meet any other requirements for entry such as prerequisites or additional entry criteria (e.g. completion of the CASPer test for teaching courses) and complete the VCE, IB or interstate equivalent. If your Achieve subject or Achieve Plus subjects are part of a bachelor course that you go on to enrol in, you’ll get credit for the subject(s) once you enrol – saving you HECS and giving you a head start.

Your conditional early offer will allow you to nominate your chosen La Trobe course for matching either your ATAR (if you receive one) or your La Trobe Entrance Score, whichever is higher. We’ll hold your spot – it’s guaranteed as long as you meet the entry requirements and successfully complete your VCE, IB or HSC. You can find the La Trobe Entrance Score or ATAR you’ll need for our courses here.
