Suitability assessment

At La Trobe, we shortlist candidates based on merit. This means your application will be assessed initially by a Recruitment Advisor and then by and a selection panel who will access your suitability against the selection criteria stated in the position description.

Telephone interviews

In some cases, you may be required to undergo a telephone interview to access your suitability prior to being shortlisted for interview.

Interview

If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend a formal interview. The interviews are conducted with a panel of staff members contributing to the assessment process known as the selection panel.

Additional assessments may or may not be required, these can include but are not limited to psychometric assessment, skills testing, seminars, work assignments & written tasks.

Reference checks

La Trobe University has two types of references verbal and online.

Online: La Trobe University partners with an online reference checking company called Xref. If successful through to this stage, you will be asked to log onto Xref via an automated email and nominate the details of 2 professional references. Your references will be asked to complete the reference report online.

Next steps

You will be contacted with the outcome of your application. Unsuccessful applications will receive a phone call or email to the address supplied in the application advising them of the outcome.

Offers

Assuming all goes well, you’ll receive an initial verbal offer. After verbally accepting the offer, we’ll issue a formal offer of employment via email. If you have not received a formal contract after 3-5 business days, we recommend contacting our team on 9479 1234

Feedback

We will provide feedback for candidates who have been interviewed and are not unsuccessful in being offered a role.
