Here’s how to get started

Watch our helpful video to learn what you can expect when you study online at La Trobe. Then follow the steps below to start your degree in 2021.

  • Find your ideal degree

We co-design our degrees with industry to teach you the technical skills you need to land the job you want. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses across all disciplines, including business, IT, engineering, health and science – find the course that’s right for you.

  • Apply online

You can submit your application online through StudyLink or through one of our approved agent partners. When you apply, you’ll need to select the campus where you wish to commence your study after you arrive in Australia.

  • Organise your visa

As part of the admissions process, you’ll be issued a Confirmation of Enrolment so you can apply for a student visa. You’ll need this visa to enter Australia once travel restrictions are lifted. Remember to check Australian Government websites for announcements about travel restrictions and visa advice – for instance, the Department of Home Affairs has announced new visa measures to support international students.

  • Start studying online in March 2021

This is when you begin building the skills and knowledge employers are looking for. You’ll:

    • learn from our expert academics
    • manage your coursework on our leading learning management system
    • be supported by our online student services and learning assistance.

(If your course has a compulsory face-to-face component that can’t be delivered online, we’ll contact you to discuss your study options.)

Hear from some of our international students about their online study experience at La Trobe.

Read about how two of our graduate researchers studied online from China in 2020.

  • Join us on campus soon

Once travel restrictions are lifted and you’ve got a student visa, you’ll be prepared to join us in Australia. With the knowledge you’ve gained through online study and the friends you’ve made through our online activities, you’ll be ready to enjoy campus life from day one.

If you’re offered a place in a degree commencing Semester 1 or Semester 2 2021, you can accept your offer with a 50% deposit (plus Overseas Student Health Cover), then pay the remaining balance before your course’s census date. (For Semester 1 2021, census date is 31 March 2021. For Semester 2, census date is 31 August.)

If you commence studying in Semester 1 2021 but have to change your plans, you can still withdraw before census date and apply for a full refund.

We understand that COVID-19 restrictions may mean you need to reconsider your study plans and personal circumstances. Along with our comprehensive range of support services, you may also have the option to reduce your study load to better manage your personal circumstances.

A regular full-time study load for international students is 60 credit points (usually equivalent to 4 subjects) per semester. If you have compelling circumstances, you could apply to reduce your study load after enrolment. Our International Student Services team will be able to guide you through the process.

If you submit a translated document, you must also provide a certified copy of the original. If your documentation doesn’t meet admission requirements, we’ll request further documents for verification.
