Escher x nendo | Between Two Worlds (2018/2019)
A first-of-its-kind exhibition giving La Trobe students up-close access to works by M.C. Escher and Japanese design studio nendo.
We partnered with the NGV to present a fascinating masterclass alongside this first-of-its-kind exhibition.
Running during the summer of 2018/2019, Escher x nendo | Between Two Worlds featured the iconic optical illusions of Dutch artist M. C. Escher in dialogue with the contemporary work of the acclaimed Japanese design studio nendo.
Partnership highlights: Impossible Spaces masterclass
Along with our annual Summer at the NGV subject, exclusively taught within the NGV’s galleries, our 2018/2019 program also included a two-day masterclass.
Led by contemporary Australian artist and La Trobe Public Programs Coordinator Karen Annett-Thomas, the masterclass explored the challenges of presenting Escher’s work to a modern audience, exhibition design concepts, and the secrets of nendo’s immersive environments.
