Confucius Classrooms
The Confucius Classrooms program promotes Chinese language and cultural education in primary and secondary schools. The program was originally funded by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (formerly known as Hanban), and is now overseen by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC). It is administered locally by a state-based Confucius Institute.
A Confucius Classroom designation given to Victorian schools signals a formal partnership with schools in China as part of a sister school relationship.
Schools with a Confucius Classroom designation are expected to carry out activities to promote Chinese language and culture, such as teaching Chinese, supporting Chinese cultural activities and/or competitions, organising exchange programs, and implementing courses for the local community.
