Join a chapter or network

Led by volunteers, La Trobe's alumni chapters provide an opportunity for you to stay connected to your fellow alumni and the University community. Alumni chapters operate as formal, organised groups with committees.
Each chapter brings together like-minded alumni based on industry disciplines, geographic regions or special interests.
As a chapter member, you'll gain access to special events, a rich community of mentors, and the opportunity to share your knowledge and skills with current La Trobe students.
If an alumni group is operated in more of an informal manner, without a committee, the group is then considered to be an alumni network.

Interested in starting an alumni chapter?
Fantastic! There's a few steps you'll need to take to get it up and running.
Firstly, you'll need a group of at least four people with the time, skills and a shared passion to form a temporary Alumni Chapter Committee.
Then, simply complete the Alumni Chapter Application form and member of the Alumni Relations Team will be in touch to discuss the next steps.
To ensure the success of an alumni chapter, a chapter committee is required. Committee positions and duties may include:
Chair
The Chair is the key point of contact with the Alumni Relations Team, leading meetings and planning chapter goals/activities. They are responsible for the proper and efficient administration of the chapter and perform other duties as may be prescribed by the committee. The Chair also acts as the representative of the chapter when communicating with the Alumni and Advancement Office and external organisations.
Deputy Chair
The Deputy Chair provides general advice and assistance to the Chair and acts as Chair as required in the Chair's absence. In such an event they shall have the same rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Chair.
Treasurer
The Treasurer manages chapter finances with support from the Alumni Relations Team. They are responsible for providing reports to the committee on the financial position of the Chapter, end of year reports and financial statements. As required, they complete and submit Funding Applications.
Secretary
The Secretary provides administrative support to the chapter. This may include preparing agendas and minutes and ensuring that meetings are properly called and organised. Meeting minutes should be sent to the Alumni and Advancement Office. The Secretary is also responsible for providing updated lists of the Chapter Committee to the Alumni and Advancement Office.
Event Coordinator*
The Event Coordinator supports chapter events, coordinates venue bookings, and organises catering. They provide assistance and expertise to Chair and organise chapter run events (including logistics and working with the Alumni and advancement Office to distribute invitations and manage RSVP’s)
Social Media Coordinator*
The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for managing chapter led social media groups/pages such as Facebook or LinkedIn, and providing communications support to the chapter. This may include developing stories, taking photographs and submitting these to the Alumni and Advancement Office for broader promotion.
La Trobe University staff member*
It is suggested that the chapter committee includes a La Trobe staff member to support the chapter. This provides a link to the University, and supports the committee with relevant education and professional development opportunities
*optional roles, depending on the chapter and their objectives
