Zimbabwe political situation

LA TROBE University Honorary Professor Dr David Dorward is available for comment on the sacking of Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe.

Dr Dorward is a political economist and historian and has a keen interest in the political situation in Africa, particularly in Zimbabwe.

Dr Dorward was Director of the African Research Institute at LaTrobe University from 1985 until his retirement as Associate Professor at the end of 2006.

Dr Dorward was twice elected President of the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific, and is an honorary life member. He is also a member of the Royal African Society, the African Studies Association of the United Kingdom and the British Institute in Eastern Africa and serves on the editorial boards of a number of academic publications.

He has held African Studies academic posts in African, Britain and Australia, travelled extensively throughout Africa and continues to provide media commentary on African affairs. For the past several years, he has been providing commentary on Africa for the English-language service of Radio China, based in Beijing.
