Brian's journey in Supply Chain Management

Brian Hoang’s career in logistics began at a freight forwarder in Vietnam, where he worked with clients across retail, manufacturing, wholesale and distribution.

“This experience gave me valuable exposure to different aspects of logistics and sparked a genuine interest in how supply chains operate,” he says. “Over time, it grew into a passion for supply chain management and motivated me to pursue further studies to strengthen my knowledge and skills in this field.”

This led Brian to enrol in La Trobe University’s Master of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, which he chose for its “practical course structure combining logistics and supply chain studies with business analytics.”

He says a highlight of the course was the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through workshops, as opposed to traditional lectures.

“The interactive activities and discussions helped me connect with the material more effectively. I also appreciated the opportunity to work on projects where I was able to apply knowledge directly to workplace situations.”

Brian is currently completing his placement as a supply chain assistant. He says the skills he has developed at La Trobe in business analysis, inventory planning and supply chain optimisation have been directly relevant to this role.

After graduation, Brian hopes to transition into a supply chain analyst or consulting role.

“I want to focus on improving efficiency, building resilience and supporting data-driven decision-making. In the long term, I hope to grow into a consulting role where I can contribute to solving complex supply chain challenges and create value for both businesses and their communities.”
