Professor Jane Mills takes on top rural advocacy role

Professor Jane Mills has been appointed Chair of the Australian College of Nursing Rural and Remote Faculty

Dean of the La Trobe Rural Health School and Pro Vice-Chancellor Health Innovation (Regional), Professor Jane Mills, has been appointed Chair of the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) Rural and Remote Faculty.

The ACN is the peak professional body for nursing. This role is the highest profile advocacy position for nurses working outside metropolitan areas.

“I am delighted to have been appointed and am very excited about the potential to make a difference for regional, rural and remote nurses,” she said.

“Addressing workforce shortages for our regional communities is an issue that remains at the heart of our challenges.”

“I am also looking forward to working with members to help rural and remote nurses reach their full scope of practice and improve equity of access to care.”

Karen Grace, ACN’s Director Professional Practice, said that the “ACN are thrilled to welcome Professor Jane Mills to the Chair role for the Rural and Remote Faculty."

“Jane’s experience and passion for rural, regional and remote nursing will see this faculty continue to thrive in its advocacy for this nursing cohort.”

The Faculty aims to connect nurses with an interest in rural nursing and midwifery, and to help members keep up to date with news and research, best practice, policy developments and networking.
