Proposed and developed by the International University Sports Federation, the FISU Healthy Campus program aims to improve all aspects of wellbeing for students and the campus community at large. The program aims to enhance students’ and the campus community’s wellbeing in domains such as healthy campus management, sport and physical activity, nutrition, disease prevention, mental and social health, risk behaviour and environment, sustainability and social responsibility.
Since joining the program in June 2022, La Trobe has systematically showcased its commitment to the ongoing improvement of the health and wellbeing of its campus communities. With the most recent milestone including the validation of 91 of the 100 criteria points, La Trobe has become the first Australian university and 32nd university worldwide to receive Platinum certification status.
La Trobe Sport Senior Operations Coordinator Jai Haddock said the awarding of Platinum certification status was further evidence of La Trobe’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of its campus communities.
“This is significant recognition for our university given we pride ourselves on enabling an environment where physical activity, health and nutrition are a daily part of campus life,” he said.
“No matter which campus community you are a part of, La Trobe University actively encourages its students and staff to practice a healthy and sustainable lifestyle and this recognition is a testament to that commitment.
“Becoming the first university in Australia to receive this certification wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration between La Trobe Sport and many other departments within our university, who are all committed to maintaining and improving the health and wellbeing of our campus communities.”
The awarding of FISU Healthy Campus Platinum certification follows La Trobe’s ranking in the top 20 universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023 for good health and wellbeing.
