Why study mathematics?
Mathematics is a major building block in our information and technological age. It's used as a tool of analysis, forecasting and modelling across many different areas in many different industries.
At La Trobe, we've developed a distinctive approach to the teaching of mathematics. Our learning environment, which has received widespread national and international recognition, is based on active student engagement in problem solving. Staff make themselves readily available to assist students and are constantly updating teaching approaches and content.
Where can mathematics take me?
Mathematics prepares you for a career in a range of fields including in research science, economics, information technology, bioinformatics, business analysis, risk assessment, process and quality management, and environmental science.
If education is your passion, become a mathematics teacher by combining the required minimum of mathematics in a Bachelor of Science degree with a Diploma of Education, or by doing a major in mathematics in the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Science Education double degree.

Further study options
Majoring in mathematics or statistics allows you to pursue advanced undergraduate studies in mathematics, statistics or both mathematics and statistics.
