Together, we are developing computing techniques and technologies, and training the next generation of information technology professionals.
Australian partnerships
The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology collaborates with industry leaders including Microsoft, Oracle and Cisco. We are active members of the SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre and Oceania Cyber Security Centre.
We also have articulation agreements with several partners, allowing students who study a diploma or advanced diploma to receive credit for selected La Trobe courses. It can shorten a degree and reduce the cost. Find out more.

Cisco is a world-leading networking solution provider. La Trobe is a member of the Cisco Network Academy, offering students free access to state-of-the-art networking facilities, technologies and courses.
Located on the University’s Melbourne campus, the La Trobe College Australia provides domestic and international students with a range of pathways that lead to first and second year entry into various La Trobe degrees. The student experience offers seamless transition to tertiary education, preparing students to succeed in their future studies.
La Trobe’s partnership with Microsoft aligns its course and subject offerings on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Our course materials feature content from Microsoft Certification on Artificial Intelligence. As a Microsoft Learn for Educators Institution Program partner, our students have access to their resources, material, programs and tools.
La Trobe is the member of Oceania Cyber Security Centre. Our research is partly funded by the Centre.
La Trobe students enrolled in our subjects have access to resources in the Oracle Academy Student Hub and are able to start on the pathway to Oracle professional certification. After completing courses with Oracle Academy curriculum and sitting for Oracle professional certification exams, these future information technology professionals will be armed with skills that will give them the edge in the job market.
La Trobe University has partnered with Pivot Maritime International to create a world-class maritime simulator that enables our researchers, students and industry partners to investigate solutions to problems facing the maritime industry. Find out more.
La Trobe is a Core Partner of the SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre which brings together over 100 national and international partners in a $245M research effort over seven years. SmartSat is developing game-changing space technologies for the Australian space economy, which is estimated to grow to $12 billion and create up to 20,000 jobs by 2030.
International partnerships
The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology is globally connected, partnering with several institutions around the world, particularly in the Asia Pacific. These partnerships support a range of academic, research, student mobility and collaborative online international learning programs.
Our international partnerships support academic collaboration and global mobility of students and staff including study abroad, short-term programs and student exchange.
They also provide pathways for international students to study at La Trobe, as well as avenues for transnational education programs.
Completing one of our approved articulation courses with a partner institution means that when students enter an eligible La Trobe course, they will receive credit for their previous studies. Students may also be entitled to two awards when they graduate – one from La Trobe and one from our partner institution. Find out more.
