Bioimaging Platform

La Trobe’s Bioimaging Platform supports a wide range of research projects by providing researchers with expert advice and access to cutting edge equipment and technologies in optical and electron microscopy imaging, flow cytometry and image analysis.

Light Microscopy

Capabilities in light microscopy include live imaging of cell dynamics and multichannel imaging of stained cells, 3D cultures, tissues and small organisms through access to high-performance confocal and widefield fluorescence microscopes.

Electron Microscopy

Electron microscopy enables high resolution imaging of biological and other materials.

Flow Cytometry

Flow cytometry is a sensitive technology used for analysis or physical collection of fluorescently labelled cells.

Support

We support researchers with equipment training and can assist with project planning, basic and advanced microscopy techniques and digital image analysis. Contact us and arrange for a tour to see what facilities are available or schedule a meeting to discuss your project.

Training and equipment bookings

To use the equipment researchers should arrange for instrument-specific training with the facility manager. Training is designed to enable users to operate the instruments competently and obtain publication quality data. Trained users can book equipment and view availability.

Pre-clinical imaging

La Trobe has partnered with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute which has complementary pre-clinical imaging capabilities that can be accessed through their ACRF Centre for Translational Cancer Therapeutics and Imaging.
