Catherine Deveny

Bachelor of Arts, La Trobe, 1992

Writer, comedian and feminist

Catherine Deveny is a writer, comedian and feminist.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe, and is a member of the Class of 1992.

Catherine says that La Trobe's culture assisted in her developing her identity.

“La Trobe’s classlessness and diversity allowed me to form exactly as I was meant to form," Catherine said.

“University education can teach girls to stand on their own feet and pay their own way. You have your money. You have your business. You have your beliefs. You have your house and, ultimately, get what I have."

Catherine wants a world where everyone is on an even playing field.

“I want to hear from the people who don’t fit into the normal boxes. My advice to La Trobe is to give them preference," she said.

"Give them housing. Give them childcare. Give them ramps. Make it easy for them to be able to get educated, in order for our society to get to best possible place with the least amount of damage."
