Climate Adaptation, Risk, and Community Resilience
We are strengthening our ability to respond to climate change by protecting our campuses, working with communities and planning for long-term resilience.
Our approach integrates infrastructure, environment and partnerships to reduce risk and adapt to a changing world.
We’re building resilience across our campuses and communities by:
- Conducting climate risk assessments across all campuses
- Improving infrastructure resilience to extreme weather
- Partnering with Indigenous communities on land management
- Protecting biodiversity and significant landscapes
- Committing to no net loss of vegetation canopy
- Supporting research and education in climate adaptation
How we measure progress:
- Implementation of climate risk mitigation actions
- Impact of climate-focused research and programs
- Vegetation canopy monitoring across campuses
In action at La Trobe:
Our Masterplan includes over 1 million square metres of regenerative, climate resilient open spaces, as well as no net loss of vegetation canopy.
Partnering with Narrup Rangers La Trobe has used cultural burning as a form of land management that helps manage weeds, regenerate native vegetation and enhance biodiversity.
