Types of partnerships
Our research at La Trobe is underpinned by our world class research infrastructure. We offer a range of tailored research partnership options to create opportunities for all parties involved.
In graduate research, we provide several PhD offerings with partner universities to support the next generation of global researchers.

Joint PhDs
Under joint PhD degree arrangements candidates are enrolled at both La Trobe University and the partner institution, spend time at both institutions, and graduate with a PhD awarded jointly by both institutions.
Collaborative PhDs
Candidates are enrolled at La Trobe University only but undertake research predominantly at the partner institution and graduate with a PhD awarded by La Trobe University only.
Dual PhDs
Candidates are enrolled at both La Trobe University and the partner organisation, spend time at both institutions and are jointly supervised by staff at each institution. On successful completion, the candidate graduates from both universities with a PhD.
