About ACAMI

ACAMI is a collaborative research, workforce development and clinical trials centre operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medical innovation.
VISION OF ACAMI
The Victorian Government partnered with La Trobe University to establish the Australian Centre for AI in Medical Innovation (ACAMI).
ACAMI will deliver new and additional capabilities to Victoria’s world leading medical innovation and life sciences ecosystem.
Leveraging technology, science, data and skills innovation from La Trobe, Victorian, Australian and International Partners, the centre drives transformation and growth in AI-enabled medical ecosystems.
ACAMI will provide a dedicated focus to accelerating the research and development of immunotherapy, vaccines and medical innovations, by applying AI and Machine Learning from discovery to development.
The centre builds on La Trobe University’s existing capabilities in artificial intelligence research, cancer, immunology and immunotherapy research, a well-established clinical trial network, and recognised leadership in producing industry-ready graduates.
THREE COMPONENTS
ACAMI addresses three critical components, applying those learnings for the wider benefit of Australian’s medical research sector and the community.
LEADING THE MEDICAL RESEARCH SECTOR IN THE INTEGRATION OF AI WITH RNA TECHNOLOGIES
Victoria is recognised nationally and globally as a leader in cutting-edge health and medical research. Our medical research sector supports more than 30,000 jobs across institutes, universities and industry, and our research community is continually generating incredible scientific breakthroughs. The state is home to 18 world-class medical research institutes, employing over 6000 people.
The advances AI are demonstrating support cancer detection and diagnosis. AI is now a key theme in industry-led research and development, creating an inextricable link between medical research and AI.
ACAMI will combine those strengths with new skills and capabilities brought on to support the growth of the medical research ecosystem. Initially focused on mRNA research and immunotherapy, the result will be a depth of expertise at the intersection of AI innovation and biology to meet an emerging global demand.
ACAMI will enable Victoria’s health and medical sector to capitalise on the potential of technologies such as mRNA, RNA, cell therapies, antibodies, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
