Answer a student’s call in February

Our telethon is your chance to reconnect with La Trobe.

Our annual alumni telethon starts in February 2019. During the telethon, students and recent graduates from across the University will be calling to hear about your personal career journey, share information about our alumni benefits, and discuss how your financial support can transform young students’ lives.

For callers like Alana, who studied a Bachelor of Arts (History) at La Trobe, the telethon offers a unique and valuable experience to meet members of La Trobe’s alumni community.

‘During my time at La Trobe, I met a plethora of interesting individuals from all different walks of life, and this is what I’m most looking forward to in speaking with alumni. I’m also keen to hear about where their studies have taken them in life,’ she says.

Alana hopes that the conversations she has with alumni will provide a sense of shared values.

‘I’ve always found that La Trobeians are laid back and non-judgemental. They hold that true Australian value of everyone being entitled to ‘a fair go’ regardless of their race, religion, gender or sexuality. I’ve no doubt that chatting one-on-one with alumni will reinforce that.’

By speaking with one of our student or graduate callers in February, you’ll have the chance to give to scholarships and bursaries that will change the lives of La Trobe students to come.

This year’s telethon will raise money for the Care Leaver Bursary, which supports young people leaving foster care, residential care or other formal out-of-home care to study at La Trobe. Currently, only one per cent of this group reach university – which is why 100 per cent of your donation will go towards helping them get there.

In Alana’s words: ‘Your conversation will be a really fun experience for callers, but also a life-changing opportunity for students who wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to go to university.’
