ECOTONE is a long-term artistic exchange bringing mid-career Australian and South Korean artists into reciprocal exchange. Led by artists Eugenia Lim (AUS) and Jinjoo Kim (KR) with Anna Nalpantidis, and supported by Line Cultural Foundation (Seoul, KR) and La Trobe Art Institute (Bendigo, AUS), ECOTONE fosters intercultural dialogue, place-based ecological artistic practice and meaningful connections between Australian and South Korean artistic communities.
WHAT IS ECOTONE?
‘Ecotone’ is an ecological term for the meeting place between two distinct communities or ecosystems - a space of transition, overlap and exchange where different environments meet and new forms of life can emerge.
For this pilot program, the term becomes a way of thinking about artistic exchange: a space between where artists, ideas, practices and perspectives can meet, shift and take root. Rather than simply moving between two places, ECOTONE creates the conditions for reciprocal exchange, allowing new relationships, collaborations and ways of thinking to emerge through ecological and place-based practice.
