La Trobe University is proud to present the 25th GS Watson Public Lecture: John Maynard Keynes and Probability. A free public lecture exploring the life, mathematics and ideas of John Maynard Keynes, presented by Professor Terence Mills.

This year’s lecture explores the life and ideas of John Maynard Keynes, one of the most influential economists of the 20th century. While Keynes is best known for his contributions to economics, fewer people know that he began his academic life in mathematics, particularly probability theory.

Presented by Emeritus Professor Terence Mills, the lecture will examine Keynes’ intellectual journey, his work on probability and the continuing relevance of his ideas today. The lecture will also uncover an intriguing Bendigo connection.

This free public event welcomes members of the community, students, staff and anyone with an interest in economics, mathematics, history or public ideas.

Guest Speaker

Professor Terence Mills, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics, La Trobe University. Professor Mills has written extensively on the history of probability and its applications.
