What is an open access major or minor?
With an open access major or minor, you can design your own degree by using space in your course structure to take a major or minor from your course’s discipline or a completely different discipline.
We’ve made majors and minors from a wide range of disciplines available via open access, including arts, business, IT, health and science.
There’s open access majors and minors available at all of our campuses, including a choice of online and StudyFlex options at our regional campuses, so you can design a degree to suit your lifestyle as much as your career path.
With open access majors and minors, you could mix business with science or arts with IT or combine a range of disciplines to design a degree to match your interests and truly find your niche.
Can I take an open access major or minor?
Anyone studying an undergraduate degree at La Trobe can take an open access major or minor as long as there’s enough spare credit points in their course and room in their timetable.
If your course structure doesn't normally allow for a major or minor, but you have space through elective options or advanced standing, you can apply to have a major or minor added.
