Exploring the use of AI tools to seek health information, advice and support.

2026

This study aims to understand how Australians use artificial intelligence (AI) for health-related purposes.

AI tools (such as chatbots) are increasingly being used to seek health information, advice, and support. We are interested in how people use these tools and how much they trust them, and what kinds of health-related questions or concerns they might bring to AI.

The study will also compare AI use among LGBTQ+ participants and cis-gender heterosexual Australians . This comparison will help us understand whether LGBTQ+ people use AI for health-related purposes in similar or different ways, including whether AI tools are perceived as accessible, trustworthy, safe, or useful when seeking health information or support.

The study also asks people how they respond to common health scenarios by describing what they would say to an AI tool if they were seeking help. This will help us better understand how people communicate with AI in health-related contexts.
