About us
Val’s LGBTI Ageing and Aged Care works with aged care, health and human services providers, and a range of community stakeholders to improve the health, wellbeing and visibility of older LGBTI people.
Formerly Val’s Café, we were established in 2009 and is a Victorian-based program working to improve healthy ageing pathways, care and visibility of older LGBTI people.
We are a part of Rainbow Health Australia at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University.
We work directly with service providers (both community and residential aged care, and health and human services) and facilitates a network of individuals and organisations to foster an understanding of the histories and experiences of older LGBTI people, and how these may impact access to services and care. Importantly, we work with services to build their capacity to be LGBTI aware and inclusive.
We also work together with a range of other organisations nationally who are committed to improving ageing and care options for older LGBTI people.
What we offer
We are a program of Rainbow Health Australia, and offer LGBTI inclusive aged care training, consultation, and provides evidenced based research, information and resources to build the capacity of services to be welcoming and inclusive of older LGBTI people.
We provide regular e-news bulletins linking services and individuals to relevant information, resources, research, events and advocacy.
We are now on Radio 3CR each Monday fortnight at 2pm. Find out more or listen back to past episodes by visiting our Rainbows Don't Fade with Age page.
