Nicky Maheras

(1965–2009)

Nicky Maheras completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Family Therapy at La Trobe in 1992. She was deeply committed to listening to people and empowering them – be they friends, colleagues or clients. In 2002, Nicky completed her Masters examining the role of Power within the therapeutic relationship.

In 1998 she returned to work at the Bouverie Centre as a Family Therapist and teacher.

Nicky worked within the Acquired Brain Injury team and set up the Wisdoms project and ABI writers Group, initiatives of which she was particularly proud.

Nicky also had a small private practice where she helped empower families to see dynamics and help them forge new paths.

Nicky passed away tragically in 2009. Her clients’ memories and the obituary from her colleagues at the Bouverie Centre are testament to the important role she played in the community.

Nicky is remembered as a truly remarkable woman who made a difference in the lives of many people.
