Passerines

The passerines include more than half of all bird species. They are also known as perching or song birds and can be characterised by the arrangement of their toes; three toes pointing forward and one back.

Many, though not all passerines, have a distinctive call. If you have gone for a walk in the Wildlife Sanctuary you may have heard the distinctive musical bell-like 'tink' of the Bell Miner, even if you haven't seen the bird making the noise.

Due to the transient nature of many bird species, the list below is not an exhaustive list of all bird species who utilise the Wildlife Sanctuary. For the latest sightings, we recommend having a look at e-Bird Australia and make sure you upload your sightings as well!
