How is it paid?

This scholarship will be applied as a discount to the recipient’s tuition fees for each subject undertaken throughout the duration of their program. To receive the scholarship, the recipient must meet all conditions (if applicable) outlined in their La Trobe University Letter of Offer and formally accept the offer by paying the required deposit, as specified in the offer letter. This must be completed before the scholarship acceptance deadline. The scholarship value will be credited to the recipient’s tuition account starting from the second semester. Please note: Failure to pay the acceptance deposit by the specified deadline will result in the automatic cancellation of the scholarship

Wominjeka – Come with Purpose

Embark on a transformative journey with La Trobe University's Study Abroad Scholarship. Our scholarships have two streams: one for students eager to explore the rich and diverse culture of Australia's First Nations people, and a dedicated stream for underrepresented students in study abroad programs. This is more than study abroad—it's learning with purpose.

Semester Dates:

  • Semester 1: Mid Feb to end June 2026
  • Semester 2: End July to mid-November 2026

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled at a university outside of Australia. 
  • Be a non-degree student, applying for a study abroad program (one or two semesters) at La Trobe University. Other students are not eligible.
  • Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and be applying to start the study abroad program from Semester 1 or Semester 2 2026.
  • Not be a humanitarian or other permanent visa holder.
  • Commence their studies at any of the La Trobe University Victorian campuses in either Semester 1 or 2 2026.
  • Meet the University's English language requirements (if from a non-English speaking background) and all other conditions stated on the Offer Letter.
  • Obtain an offer letter before selection for the scholarship. Exceptions must be approved by La Trobe University. All students must have passed the Genuine Student assessment, including financial checks before they can be considered for this scholarship (if applicable).
  • Complete the following application form in full: Wominjeka Study Abroad Scholarship (Non-Degree Students)

Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected by the University based on their:

  • Academic performance (A minimum GPA of 2.5)
  • Written statement received in the application form, that fits within one of the following two streams:

1. Study Abroad: Australian Indigenous Perspectives: A semester study plan that includes at least one Indigenous subject. E.g:

Application requirements: A 200-word statement of motivation within your online application that demonstrates your genuine interest in learning more about Australia’s First Nations people and culture.

2. Study Abroad: Social Justice and Internationalisation: La Trobe is dedicated to social justice empowering underrepresented students—First Nations, those with disabilities, or from low socio-economic backgrounds—to embark on life-changing study abroad experiences.

Application requirements: Provide a 200-word statement of motivation in your application that outlines your interest in social justice, the challenges that might prevent you from studying abroad, and how this scholarship will help you overcome them to study in Australia.

Recipient obligations

  • The scholarship cannot be deferred to 2027. If the recipient is unable to secure a visa for 2026, the scholarship offer may be revoked.
  • Recipients are required to maintain full-time enrolment at La Trobe University and demonstrate satisfactory academic progress throughout their studies.
