Background

Scholarship code: SRS-25032

This scholarship has been established thanks to the generosity and vision of the late Mr Anastassios Vassilogianis, benefactor of La Trobe University's Greek Studies program. It is a testament to his desire to support Hellenic studies and research for and by students enrolled in Greek Studies at La Trobe University.

As an applicant, you should have an interest in Greek language and/or culture, relating to Greece or the diaspora, or both. Your research topic may relate to culture, art, archaeology, history, language, literature, migration, identity, society, politics, education, or a range of other themes, developed in consultation with your supervisor.

Benefits of the scholarship

  • a La Trobe Research Scholarship for three and a half years, with a value of $35,000 per annum (pro-rata), to support your living costs (2025 rate)
  • a fee-relief scholarship for up to four years
  • opportunities to work with La Trobe’s outstanding researchers, and have access to our suite of professional  development programs
  • an allowance up to $10,000 over three years to assist with conference and other related travel
  • the successful candidate will have access to the 'Dardalis Archives of the Hellenic Diaspora', curated by the La Trobe University Library. This collection reflects the migration of Greeks to Australia, especially in the post-WWII period (1950s and 1960s)
