The Baker Department of Cardiovascular Research, Translation and Implementation at La Trobe University is focused on world class cardiovascular disease, diabetes and public health research. We are translating our research discoveries into practice, policy and education. Our goal is to:better understand who is at risk of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease,

  • better understand who is at risk of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease,
  • identify the molecular pathways underpinning that risk, and
  • use this information to develop strategies for prevention and treatment

Benefits of the scholarship

  • a Research Training Program (RTP) or La Trobe Graduate Research Scholarship (LTGRS) stipend for up to three and a half (3.5) years,with a value of $36,800 per annum (2027 rate)
  • a Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset scholarship or La Trobe Full Fee Research scholarship (LTUFFRS) for up to four years for a doctoral degree
  • relocation allowance and thesis/publication allowance

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

In selecting successful applicants, we prioritise applications from candidates who:

  • will be enrolled full-time and undertaking their research at the Baker Institute or La Trobe University
  • have completed a Masters by Research or other significant body of research, such as an honours research thesis or lead authorship of a peer-reviewed publication, assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above

Expressions of interest close 8 January 2027.

  1. Check that you meet the entry requirements for the PhD
  2. Discuss a research project with a department supervisor
  3. Obtain approval from the supervisor to submit an expression of interest
  4. Complete the PhD proposal form and submit with CV and academic transcript to: study@baker.edu.au by 11.59pm on 8 January 2027

Top applicants will be invited to submit a full application for entry into the PhD and for a supporting scholarship.
