How is it paid?

$5,000 per year for the normal duration of full-time study (including honours). Payments are made in two $2,500 instalments following the census date each semester.

Background

The La Trobe University Regional Pathway Program has a powerful impact on the participation of regional students in higher education. The McCall MacBain Pathways Regional Leader Scholarship will identify talented future leaders from among the Pathway graduates to receive $5,000 per annum for the duration of their undergraduate studies. Scholars will receive leadership development, mentoring, industry networking and other transformative extension opportunities.

The McCall MacBain Foundation was founded in 2007 by John and Marcy McCall MacBain. The Foundation is committed to initiatives in three key areas: education, climate change and health. The Foundation believes that strong, dedicated and creative leadership of individuals and organisations are required to achieve positive outcomes.

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

•Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa

•Have completed, or are currently enrolled in, the Regional Pathways program

•Have been accepted into an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree program at any campus for commencement in 2027.


Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected by the University based on their:

  • VTAC course offer from La Trobe for 2027
  • SEAS (or VTAC Scholarships) application 
  • Interview outcome

Shortlisted scholarship applicants will be notified within one day of receiving a course offer from La Trobe. They must be available in January to attend an interview before they can progress to a scholarship offer.

Recipient obligations

  • Recipients may be required to attend promotional events and participate in promotional activities in keeping with the spirit of the scholarship.
  • Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress.

How to apply

Submit a SEAS application along with your VTAC course application and include a La Trobe course in your preferences.Applications are open through VTAC from August to October 2026.
