Background

This prestigious scholarship, established by La Trobe University in partnership with Melbourne City Football Club, will be awarded to an outstanding applicant who is interested in exploring player performance using sport analytics while contributing to a high-performance team in an elite sport environment.

The objective of this project is to explore the relationship between physical, technical, and tactical performance in football by developing novel match analysis techniques.

Applicants should have a strong background in sport/data analytics, performance analysis and/or athlete tracking. Experience working in an elite sport environment is desirable, but not essential. Additional desirable criteria include advanced programming skills (e.g., R or Python) and experience using player/team performance data (e.g., GPS, OPTA). A high level of academic achievement is expected, including excellent research, analytical, project management, oral and written communication skills.

  • a fee-relief scholarship for up to four years
