This prestigious scholarship aligns Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) and La Trobe University. It will be awarded to an outstanding applicant who is interested in understanding factors in the development and success of female association footballers in Australia.

Applicants should have an interest in skill development and expertise, women's sport, and supporting and understanding the complexity of success in sport, to add value to player members of Professional Footballers Australia.

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • meet the entrance requirements for the proposed course
  • not be receiving another scholarship greater than 75 per cent of the stipend rate for the same purpose
  • have an academic background relevant to the project (e.g., sport science, performance psychology)

In selecting successful applicants, we prioritise applications from candidates who:

  • have experience working in proessional or organised sport
  • have experience with relevant research methods, including but not limited to qualitative approaches to research such as conducting and analysing interviews, focus groups, and concept mapping
  • will be enrolled full-time and undertaking their research at a La Trobe University campus
  • have completed a Masters by Research or other significant body of research, such as an honours research thesis or lead authorship of a peer-reviewed publication, assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above

The scholarship will be open until filled.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain a Working With Children Check completed prior to commencing the position (paid for by the applicant).

Selection process

The University will carefully review your expression of interest and consider you for this scholarship.

If you are shortlisted for the scholarship and candidature you will be invited to an interview with representatives of Professional Footballers Australia and La Trobe University. The final decision will be based on your application and interview. The successful candidate will be made an offer for candidature and scholarship.
